Who We Are
Cottonwood Presbyterian Church was founded in the 1950s by some dedicated and energetic people who wanted a place to worship together, raise their kids, and sponsor a scout troop. We are part of the Presbyterian USA denomination, which is one of the “reformed” churches that sprang from the Protestant Reformation in the 1500s. As for Cottonwood today, we’re a dynamic, multicultural body of Jesus followers who want to make a difference in the world. Our members include first generation immigrants from Cameroon, Nigeria, Pakistan, and China. We welcome all children of God, including our LGBTQ+ friends and neighbors. As our purpose statement says, we are all:
“In Christ, together, for the world.”
The things we do to live that purpose change and evolve depending on the needs we see around us and the particular gifts our members and friends lend to our calling. We welcome all who have a passion for helping others!
Currently, we are called to use our property and facilities to meet the needs of our community in three major ways:
S.O.U.L Garden – About five acres of our land is divided into garden plots used by about ___ gardeners, some from our membership and others from the community. Using sustainable, organic methods, our gardeners raise enough food to meet their own needs and contribute about 20 percent to charity. A “pay-what-you-can” farmstand each Sunday raises funds for local food charities.
Wonderbloom – An innovative pre-school uses our building and yard to care for children and nurture their knowledge and love of nature.
Faith Christian Church – A church-within-our-church, Faith Christian serves refugees from Myanmar with weekly worship and fellowship.
